But you know, you just don't get up on a volcano all that often. The scenery was truly surreal, the air so incredibly crisp, and the view was farther than you thought you'd ever see.
Headed down the other side we had bike trouble (ours), and that far out you better be prepared. We were, but sometimes there's only so much field operation you can do. The first stall (felt like running out of gas) took about 45 minutes to diagnose and fix. The second stall (ditto) took about an hour and a half, but was elusive to the point of throwing up the hands and deciding to load the bike in the pickup. So, although me and Diane got a cushy ride down the mountain, time was cut way-short and the overlook at Colca Canyon was not to be.
But did I tell you about last night and the three-hour dinner on a three-story rooftop overlooking the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral at sunset? Que increible! Santiago y Elena
