Japan Hokkaido Motorcycle Tour Itinerary

Day
1

Sunday, August 14th:

Arrive in Sapporo

Welcome Dinner in Sapporo. Stay in Sapporo

Day
2

Monday, August 15th:

Sapporo

Explore the city of Sapporo. Visit a bike shop or two, go shopping, get accustomed to the time change and walk the main park during this leisurely day. Stay in Sapporo.

Ride roads with no traffic or stop lights. This is REALLY Japan!

Tuesday, August 16th:

Sapporo to Furano - 180 miles

Pick up bikes, ride to Tokachi Dake area. Distance yourself from the busy city and start riding open, country roads. Wind in and out of mountains until we arrive in the Furano area. Stay in Furano area.

Wednesday, August 17th:

Furano to Bifuka - 170 miles

Ride the backroads of Hokkaido. Enjoy the serenity of perfectly manicured paved roads with little or no traffic. Stop at a biker cafe and take in the atmosphere. Marvel at the hospitality of the Japanese. Stay in Bifuka area.

Thursday, August 18th:

Free Day Bifuka - up to 210 miles

Ride the coast of the Sea of Japan. Venture to the most northern tip of Japan, near Wakkanai, and where you can see Russia! Stay in Bifuka this night.

Ride the curves through endless forest. Find out why riders from all over Japan go to Hokkaido to ride!

Friday, August 19th:

Bifuka to Iozan - 175 miles

Ride through countryside and over mountains. These roads are twisty and and in excellent condition, with virtually no stop lights. This island is made for riding! Stay in Iozan area.

Saturday, August 20th:

Free day in Iozan - up to 215 miles

Ride a terrific loop out to epic Shiretoko Peninsula and back. Gaze out over Russian Islands and ride sweepers by steaming volcanoes. Stay in Iozan area.

Visit steaming Mt. Io.

Sunday, August 21st:

Iozan to Minami Furano Town - 180 miles

Take some twisty backroads by serene lakes and over heavily forested mountains. Get lost in Hokkaido! Stay in Minami Furano Town.

Monday, August 22nd:

Free Day in Minami Furano Town - up to 250 miles

There are alot of activities to enjoy in this little mountain town: canoeing, rafting, hiking...just to name a few. You may also consider taking a day ride out to Cape Erimo, and ride the epic "Golden Road" along the Pacific Ocean...a ride you will not soon forget!! Stay in Minami Furano Town.

Japan is a country of profound history that features a very unique culture.

Tuesday, August 23rd:

Minami Furano Town to Niseko - 160 miles

Ride past conical volcanoes, clear water lakes and to the outdoor recreation capital of Hokkaido, Niseko. Stay in Niseko.

Wednesday, August 24th:

Free Day in Niseko - up to 180 miles riding.

There are many outdoor activities to choose from. This is the rafting capital of Hokkaido. You may also join the guide for a loop ride around the area of Niseko. The volcanoes set up an exotic backdrop to some incredible paved roads winding through the mountains and along the rugged coast. Stay in Niseko.

The food in Japan is excellent! Be ready to be spoiled.

Thursday, August 25th:

Niseko to Sapporo. 180 miles.

Ride the scenic Sea of Japan coast back to Sapporo. Turn in bikes. Farewell Dinner this evening in Sapporo. Stay in Sapporo.

Fly Home, or keep traveling!

Ride through gorgeous Akan National Park

There is a wild population of bears on the island.  Don't be surprised when you see Hokkaido fox and deer.

Visas are not needed for U.S., Canadian, or U.K. citizens for up to three months stay.

Passport:

You must have a valid Passport that does not expire for six month from the date of entry into Japan.

Riders will be asked to put money into a kitty before and during the tour, to be used by the group as a whole for gas and other group-oriented activites not indicated as included in the tour package such as lunches, dinners, park entry fees, toll road fees, tips, water stops, etc. Guides and other staff also contribute to this kitty. This kitty account will be administered by the lead guide. During the tour, should the kitty "run dry" there will be another kitty collection. If there is a surplus in the kitty at the end of the tour, the kitty will be redestributed back to the tour participants.  You may pay the kitty by Visa, Mastercard, Cash or Personal Check. The lead guide will collect this prior to your tour start date. We have found this system to facilitate group riding during our tours.

You'll ride through the Furano and Biei areas of Hokkaido: widely regarded as some of the most picturesque scenery of Japan.

Japan is a CASH-OVER-COUNTER society.  DO NOT rely on credit cards and US $ to get you by. Change money before you arrive in Japan! Do not plan to exchange US$ for Japanese Yen after you arrive at the airport!

-Get your currency exchange at your nearest bank at home.
-Change currency at the international airport.

- Do not rely on cash machines. We are serious!

Change around $US 1,000. This should cover you for the lunches, toll roads, gas.
*If you plan to shop or travel independently, bring much more!

Hot Spring Etiquette:

Learn the art on Onsen in Japan. Many of the Hotels we are staying do not have a shower in the rooms! We will make sure that you are familiar with the way to bathe in the common baths of our hotels!

Things to Bring:

  • Drivers’ License with Motorcycle Endorsement from your country.
  • Twelve Days worth of Clothing. Pack Light!! During the evenings, all guest will be given an evening robe (Yukata) for strolling around the Hotel that can be worn for dinner. Because of this, you will not need to pack clothes for every evening…just double up on underwear.

Stand at the most northern point of Japan and see the Russian island of Sakhalin!
